My kids are better at Yoga than me...

I now have my daughters attempting to do Yoga at home. They've never actually seen me do Yoga, and have only really seen a random clip here or there, but their interpretation of what Yoga looks like is hilarious. They both insisted I get them Yoga mats, so I bought the youngest one, thinking I would just snatch it off her in a week or so when she forgets about it. Instead, the eldest got wind of the Yoga mat, and in the interests of fairness I was required to purchase an identical one for her. Joy. So here they are in our living room; I'm trying to get them to cooperate to help pack, clean up, put away laundry, basically ANYTHING to help us get ready for our trip tomorrow and they've got their mats spread out attempting to do Yoga (or at least their version). They started trying to do downward dog, then realized that was too boring and progressed into randomly trying to use blocks while basically sitting back on their butts and randomly lifting a leg or an arm in a "stretch". Not a clue. And way too funny.

Still annoyed about the packing, but watching them attempt Yoga is pretty funny. I did learn that they are both capable of doing this move:

I'm way jealous. They can't hold it for long, but they can both do it. With the youngest it's a bit more controlled, with the eldest it's more like she launches herself into the position and then holds it for a second or two before the momentum plops her back down onto the floor.
We're going to Great Wolf Lodge in the morning, and they have Yoga classes in the AM - a friend of mine warned that it's really just a bunch of kids doing random stretches to whatever they feel like: perfect, my kids have mastered that! But the eldest is all set that she is going to do Yoga with me every morning. Can't wait. So of course, we need to bring the mats with us.
Since I have nearly a full set of all the equipment imaginable, they are also trying to convince me to bring all of that. Not totally interested in that idea.

And speaking of Yoga, I had intended to do two back-to-back Yoga classes this morning, and invited my dad over to watch the kids. However, the instructor I wanted was off on vacation, and his replacement was the same lady I had in the first class. The class was good, it got me interested in returning to Yoga, but it wasn't totally great. And since I still had a tonne of things to get done today, I figured it was an easy sell to only do the one class instead of two back-to-back. Plus my legs still hurt from all the squats.
So last time, this instructor went around the room and asked us all what we wanted to work on (neck & shoulders) and then proclaimed "that's great! We're going to do feet and lower legs!".

She did the SAME THING this time too! And I'm not crazy; the woman beside me commented on it at the end of the class too. She was like "I was really hoping we'd work on our necks because I have a lot of sore muscles in there, and I was really happy when everyone started saying neck and shoulders, but then we worked on our legs. Is it always like that?" It was her first time ever in the gym, and her first time at Yoga Tune-Up class. Though she had her own Yoga mat, so clearly not a first-timer for Yoga in general. Somehow Miss Newbie over here is counselling other people on what a class is like. Huh? I tried to coach her on what to expect before class and to talk about the different classes I've tried and my experiences at the gym (you know, only having been here a week myself). We chatted a bit after class too. They have a two-week trial promotion on right now, so she was signed up for that and seeing if she liked the gym enough to make the hike in to it every day to bother signing up for a year-long membership.

So not only was this class the same great let's do legs & feet even though you all said neck & shoulders (in all fairness, less people said it this time than the one before, but only 1 person in the class said legs), but she used the SAME MOVES. It felt like the same class over again. Complete with her talking NON STOP the entire time. I got to hear all about her past life living on a beach all day every day instructing Yoga (a little jelly here); I got a bit more detail this time about how she'd been bed-ridden for six months and it really turned her life around.
Again, the class was good, and I was able to notice how my flexibility and mobility had improved a little in the one week and a bit since her last class. Pretty cool. I got a few more moves committed to memory and a few more kinks worked out of some of my muscles. Overall not complaining about the class in general, I'm just dumbstruck that it was nearly the same thing. Her class is definitely very different than the guy's class.

The personal trainer who had shown me around the gym on Saturday was there doing Yoga before his shift as well (he'd been there last week as well). And so was the older lady on my street who wiped down the equipment after we used it during our tour (potentially because she was grossed out by my crotch sweat - who am I kidding, so was I). It's a reunion!
I didn't say hi to either of them, though I felt the trainer looking at me repeatedly during the class and kept trying to square my shoulders because I know it's something I need to work on.

We leave on vacation tomorrow for nearly a week and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about my gym kick. They have a gym there, but it's most likely the standard there's a few weights, a treadmill and maybe a cycling machine. Highly doubt they'll have anything I want to use. And I already talked about how the morning Yoga is less Yoga and more little kids trying to imitate moves. I guess I will be trying to do Yoga on my own in the hotel room *gulp* We'll see how it goes. I picked up some resistance bands today, so I've packed those, along with the Alpha ball and the Yoga Tune Up balls and the stability ball. I have a lot of balls it seems. Hopefully between all of that I have enough to get in a somewhat decent work out. It may not be quite the same, but that's OK as long as I keep trying to stay active and don't give up entirely on this trip. I know if I give up, I'll never make it back into the swing of things. I'll spend the rest of my summer slouched on the couch playing my video game (I think I've touched it once all summer). I really like the game, but it takes roughly 3 hours to play one round (yes, I can save and continue later, but it's never interesting to pick up where I left off, I lose track of what I was doing). So I always end up playing it on the weekends only and going through an entire round each morning. Haven't touched it much all summer. And I'm so busy I'm not really missing it either.

Gotta keep going to the gym. And finish my assignment due on Friday...
